Queen Mary 2 transatlantic Pics

I have recently returned from a trip toEurope by sea. I traveled over to the United Kingdom on the QueenMary 2 and I returned on Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas. In between the two crossings, I did a cruise around the British Isleson Ocean Princess.

If you have the time, transatlanticcrossings are a great way to get to and from Europe. Air travel hasbecome notorious for its hassles and delays. In contrast, travelingby sea is a relaxing and memorable experience.

A transatlantic crossing, however, isdifferent than a cruise. There are more sea days and the seasometimes can be more turbulent than on a cruise. But most peoplefind that there is more to do on a crossing than there is availabletime. Also, modern ships are good at handling the weather.

Norwegian Cruise Line is in thespotlight this week. Its new ship, Norwegian Breakaway, is coming toNew York to take up residence. This is an exciting prospect asBreakaway appears to combine the innovativeness of Norwegian Epicwith the quality of a Meyer Werft ship.

Norwegian has had two ships based in New York for some time now. With Breakaway's arrival, one of thoseships, Norwegian Jewel, will be re-deployed to other itineraries.

Royal Caribbean's new Quantum of the Seas

It is hard to believe that people arenot already lounging by the side of the pools or enjoying theentertainment on Quantum of the Seas. After the media preview heldlast week in New York City, I felt that the ship is out there sailingthe seas somewhere. In reality, however, that is still some 18months in the future.

What made me feel that Quantum mustalready exist? To begin, we were shown a video with realisticlooking images of the ship cutting through smooth seas. Then we wereshown Royal Caribbean Chairman Richard Fain flying in the ship'sskydiving simulator and Royal Caribbean International President AdamGoldstein playing table tennis with Kristen Chenowith, the ship'sgodmother, in the Seaplex - - a venue that transforms from sportscomplex to entertainment center. We then saw Ms. Chenowith invarious other parts of the ship.

Great Stirrup Cay Cunard's Queen Elizabeth Ship

Despite a hurricane last fall,Norwegian continues to make noticeable progress on its ambitiousplans to develop this Bahamian island into a vacation paradise.
