San Juan is unique amongst Caribbeanisland cruise ports. It is a major city just like you find on themainland of North America or Europe. It dwarfs the other Caribbeanisland cruise ports.

Queen Mary 2 transatlantic Pics
I have recently returned from a trip toEurope by sea. I traveled over to the United Kingdom on the QueenMary 2 and I returned on Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas. In between the two crossings, I did a cruise around the British Isleson Ocean Princess.
If you have the time, transatlanticcrossings are a great way to get to and from Europe. Air travel hasbecome notorious for its hassles and delays. In contrast, travelingby sea is a relaxing and memorable experience.
A transatlantic crossing, however, isdifferent than a cruise. There are more sea days and the seasometimes can be more turbulent than on a cruise. But most peoplefind that there is more to do on a crossing than there is availabletime. Also, modern ships are good at handling the weather.
Cruising to Tuscany Pics
Tuscany is a fabulous cruisedestination. It has beautiful countryside, historic cities and greatart. The only problem is that it is all inland.
The vast majority of cruise shipsoffering cruises to Florence and Pisa stop at Livorno or Leghorn asit used to be called. It is an industrial port which suffered badlyfrom bombing during World War II. As a result, there isn't that muchto see in the city itself and the busy movement and storage of cargomakes the port less than ideal for passengers on cruise ships,especially the large ships that dock in the midst of the cargo area.
Carnival Splendor Revisited Pics
The first time that I saw Carnival Splendor was a few months after she entered service in 2008. She wasdoing a series of Caribbean cruises from Miami before heading aroundSouth America to her new home port, Long Beach, California. Thisyear, she returned to the East Coast to take up station as CarnivalCruise Lines' year-round ship in New York. In between much hashappened to the ship including a fire that attracted media attentionand subsequent repairs and upgrades that did not get much newscoverage. Consequently, I felt it was about time to go back and lookat the Splendor again to see what kind of cruise experience she isproviding these days.

With a new baby expected any day now,many people are thinking about the British Royal Family. Accordingly, it seems fitting to look at the Royal Family's ship, HMYBritannia.
The Britannia was built in the early1950s not to be a pleasure boat for the Royal Family but to assistthe monarch in her duties as head of state by acting as a mobile baseof operations during her visits to foreign lands. Among otherthings, the yacht allowed the Queen to host receptions and banquetsunder the British flag while she was abroad. And the list of foreignheads of state that visited Britannia during her 40 years of serviceis quite impressive, including four United States Presidents.

Norwegian Cruise Line is in thespotlight this week. Its new ship, Norwegian Breakaway, is coming toNew York to take up residence. This is an exciting prospect asBreakaway appears to combine the innovativeness of Norwegian Epicwith the quality of a Meyer Werft ship.
Norwegian has had two ships based in New York for some time now. With Breakaway's arrival, one of thoseships, Norwegian Jewel, will be re-deployed to other itineraries.
Celebrity Eclipse superior cruise ship Pics
Celebrity Eclipse is a superior cruiseship. She is one of five Solstice class ships built by Meyer Werftfor Celebrity Cruises. All of these ships are nicely designed withattention to detail. They also offer a very good array of diningoptions ranging from casual to healthy to classic fine dining. Inaddition, they offer a good program of reasonably sophisticatedentertainment and activities even though the enrichment program isnot as cutting edge as it was just a few years ago. They are alsogood ships from a nautical perspective.

The reason why Norwegian Breakaway isan important ship tends to be obscured by her size, all of the newfeatures aboard the ship, the Peter Max painting on her hull and byNorwegian Cruise Line's decision to base its new ship, not in Floridabut rather in New York City. She is an important ship because she isa further refinement on a new model of cruising.
